Jaguar Resale Value and Depreciation Guide

Jaguar Resale Value Guide - Jaguar Easton

Every vehicle loses some value over the years, it’s just a reality of vehicle ownership that we all have to accept. But not every vehicle depreciates at the same rate, and it can be helpful to know what you’re getting into when you buy a vehicle. Of course, it’s not as straightforward as that, so we made a guide to break down what needs to be considered.

What Affects Resale Value?

There are several factors that will impact the resale value of your vehicle. They won’t impact the value equally, and there are some that are extremely important for one vehicle and a non-issue with others. Nevertheless, it’s important to know what all of the factors are:

  • Mileage / Condition – Most of the time, this will be the biggest thing to consider. Two examples of the same model and year will be worth very different amounts if one is lightly used and the other has been run into the ground.
  • Market Conditions – This one is out of your control, and could change from when you buy the car to when you sell. But it is a good idea to keep an eye on used vehicle price trends when you’re thinking of selling, since they can fluctuate a lot.
  • Vehicle Type – The type of vehicle you’re thinking of selling can have a huge impact on value retention. Rarity is often a good quality for getting a higher price, provided that the vehicle was desirable in the first place, and isn’t just rare because nobody wanted one. Sports cars are good for this, and in particular, sports cars that are bit more exotic than the mainstream offerings from American and Japanese brands. It’s easy to overestimate the rarity factor though, and often what makes a vehicle incredibly valuable as a collector car in 50 years won’t make any difference at all after just two years.
  • Brand – This is another factor that can change during the time you own the vehicle. If, for example, an automaker goes out of business and dealership service departments all close up from when you buy the car to when you’re planning to sell it, you’re probably going to have a rough time selling it, even if it’s in excellent condition. Brands with a reputation for poor reliability will also suffer, although this one is a bit easier to predict.

Jaguar Resale Value

For the most part, Jaguar vehicles rate similarly to their German counterparts when it comes to resale value, according to a study from iSeeCars, and things like the market and mileage/condition will be the main considerations in determining resale value. But there are a couple of exceptions. The F-Type, and the F-Type coupe in particular, rate well above average for mainstream luxury vehicles. Rarity and desirability are obviously factors here, but the F-Type also rates highly for reliability, and that combination is why it will retain an estimated 54.4% of its value after five years. The E-PACE is the highest-rated mainstream model for resale value, coming in at 50.6%. Some of this is again due to things like a solid reliability rating, but the market plays a role here too. Compact SUVs are extremely popular, and have been for some time now, and that makes a big difference.
