About Smart Columbus

Smart Columbus was founded after Columbus won the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Smart City Challenge over 77 other competing cities. Amplified by the investments of the Columbus private and public sectors, more than $500 million in investments have been committed to transforming our region into an epicenter for mobility innovation. Through our collaboration with Smart Columbus, Jaguar Easton will strive to improve and grow access to the EV charging network and better educate our clients on the advantages of driving an electric vehicle.

The Future of Mobility

• The transportation sector generates the largest share of greenhouse gas emissions.
• Our current transportation infrastructure is costly. The Federal Highway Administration Budget was $47B in one year.
• According to Inrix, the cost of congestion per driver is $990.
• 10 million of all vehicles sold last year had connected technology. This will increase to 30 million this year.
• Autonomous driving investments in research and development are rapidly growing amongst manufacturers. A total of $60M of federal grant funding has resulted in 8 new cities launching AV pilots in 2019.
• Global carmakers are expected to invest at least $90 billion in electric vehicles.

EV 101

• Cost of Charging – It’s far less expensive to power a car with electricity compared to gasoline. If you drive 10,000 miles per year, you can save up to $75 each month. That’s a total of $900 per year!

• Residential Charging – It’s no secret that the easiest and most convenient type of charging occurs at home. Every EV comes standard with a Level 1 charger that’s able to plug into any standard 120V outlet. You also have the option to install a Level 2 charger from a 240V dryer outlet. The City of Columbus Division of Power, IGS, and AEP all have programs to help simplify installing an at-home charging station.
