Electric Car Maintenance Guide & FAQ

Electric Car Maintenance Guide & FAQ

There is certainly a long list of benefits and advantages that come from driving an all-electric vehicle. You’re likely familiar with the fact that you won’t have to spend time and money at the gas station anymore. Your EV will also deliver instantaneous acceleration and a smooth ride at all speeds. To top it all off, there’s no replacement for the satisfaction that comes from knowing that you’re doing your part for the environment as well.

However, another key perk of an all-electric driving lifestyle is the fact that maintaining an EV is both easier and cheaper when compared to a conventional gas-powered model. To help illustrate this point, our team at Jaguar Easton has created this handy EV maintenance guide that lists all the benefits that you could enjoy. Still have questions? Check out the FAQ section at the bottom of this page which covers many of the most common concerns and questions associated with owning and maintaining an all-electric vehicle.

Are EVs Cheaper to Maintain?

Maintenance costs are an important ownership aspect to consider when shopping for your next new vehicle. If you’re considering making the switch to an EV, you’ll be delighted to know that maintenance costs for electric vehicles are much lower than conventional vehicles in most cases. Simply due to the fact that they have fewer moving parts compared to an internal combustion engine, all-electric powertrains require less maintenance than a traditional car. You won’t have to worry about things like routine oil changes or spark plug changes.

Don’t just take our word for it either! In fact, the latest findings from the U.S. Department of Energy indicate that the per-mile cost of maintaining an EV is lower than a conventional vehicle*. This study says light-duty EV vehicles cost less than 7 cents per mile compared to about 10 cents per mile for a traditional model*. As the miles add up on the odometer of your EV, so will the savings.

Electric Vehicle Maintenance & Service FAQ

Why are EVs less expensive to maintain than conventional vehicles?

Although there are a number of reasons, one of the biggest is the fact that electric powertrains have fewer moving parts and components that will wear out compared to an internal combustion engine. Fewer belts, fluids, hoses, and internal components lead to lower operating and maintenance costs for EVs.

Do I need to take my EV to a specialized facility for service?

It’s always smart to trust only factory-trained Jaguar technicians to service your EV since they have the knowledge and experience to properly care for your vehicle. For issues related to the batteries and drivetrain, we recommend trusting only authorized Jaguar dealerships for repairs. However, a situation like a flat tire can be handled by a normal repair shop just like a traditional vehicle.

Will I have to pay more to service my EV?

No! Just like conventional Jaguar models, your new Jaguar EV will receive Jaguar EliteCare complimentary scheduled maintenance. This best-in-class program provides factory-recommended scheduled maintenance as detailed in the Passport to Service for 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Combined with stellar fuel savings, it’s never been more rewarding to make the switch to an all-electric vehicle.
